Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics (Top Up)

Program Overview

Top up your existing qualifications to an honours degree. This one year top-up degree is equivalent to the final year of undergraduate study, and is aimed at students who have previously completed a relevant qualification, such as a Higher National Diploma or equivalent

Why study economics?

  • Economics impacts every aspect of our lives and studying it is essential to understanding the world in which we live and work.
  • This course is for those who want to explore how economic theory is applied in real world practice and helps to understand and challenge the broader social and political context shaping today's world.
  • As an economics graduate, you'll enjoy some of the best job prospects and high earnings across several career paths

Why UWE Bristol?

  • This course focuses on applying the latest contemporary economic theory to real and relevant problems.  You will analyse numerous real-world issues, including the challenges of trade in international markets, sustainability and the cost of continued economic growth. You will learn about alternative economics schools of thought that are shaping future policy and explore a contemporary problem in depth through an extended project. You can choose from a range of challenging options including issues in labour and migration, developing countries and behavioural and gender economics.
  • We embrace pluralism (addressing issues using multiple theories or approaches at the same time) to help you debate complex questions, form opinions and look at things from different perspectives.
  • Learning this way gives you a deeper understanding of real-world economic relationships and makes you attractive to future employers.

Where can it take me?

  • Economics at UWE Bristol focuses on employability and experience, helping you bridge the gap between theory and practice and develop important workplace skills.
  • Our graduates go on to successful careers in government and  non-governmental organisations (NGOs), investment, banking, finance and accountancy with organisations including Hargreaves Lansdown (stockbroker), the Ministry of Defence (MoD), HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, and Rolls Royce.
