Undergraduate Foundation Program in Law and Social Sciences

Program Overview

We are offering a wide range of undergraduate degree programmes through Clearing this year. This includes courses in a variety of subjects, ranging from sport to communications, business to drama and from politics to teaching.

Law and Social Sciences:
The Law degree at St Mary’s University is taught by leading academics in the field, and former solicitors and barristers, in an open and friendly environment, with emphasis given to supporting students as individuals. Our Criminology and Sociology degrees will provide a sound understanding of the key conceptual issues involved in the study of society, crime and criminal justice. The programme places an emphasis on helping you to develop your employability skills and providing a wide range of relevant experiences: an employment tribunal; Supreme and County courts; Bank of England; and Lloyds of London, to name just a few.

Commercial awareness workshops give you the chance to develop awareness of topical issues. In addition, guest lecturers, which have in the past included a practitioner teaching a domestic violence workshop and a former prisoner running a workshop on aspects of Criminal Justice, feature regularly on the programme. There are also opportunities to observe practitioners at a local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and at a pro-bono legal advice service for the local community. You may even be able to take part in an extensive CAB training course, bespoke to St Mary's law students, and become CAB telephone assessors.

Our degree programmes are connected to the Centre for the Study of Modern Slavery and the Centre for Law and Culture. You're encouraged to attend public lectures and other suitable events as these opportunities will enable you to develop learning beyond your undergraduate studies, both in the context of further studies and career development.

The School of Management and Social Sciences at St Mary's scored 91% for Overall Satisfaction in the 2016 National Student Survey and was rated 90% for teaching satisfaction, with 94% of students agreeing that staff are good at explaining things.
