  • Feel that additional support at the start of university studies will help them stand a better chance of success
  • Have been away from studies for a period of time
  • Come from a different academic environment to that of the UK

Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 you will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree. There is no need to reapply, you will simply just progress between each stage until you reach the final stage and graduate with a degree from ARU College.

Our English and writing courses let you develop your own style of writing and explore facets of English language, literature and linguistics that fascinate you. And we give you industry insight through links with creative organisations.

Our film and media courses let you to explore the culture of communication, and develop your own style of media production – while focusing on the skills and knowledge valued by employers.

Discover how our societies have shaped and been shaped by English literature, and explore different modes of performance, by studying our full-time Drama and English Literature degree in Cambridge. Choose to study abroad for one semester, and attend field trips and productions to broaden your experience. Prepare for a career in the arts or fields such as teaching – and change the way others see the world.
On our BA (Hons) Drama and English Literature, you’ll discover the importance of English literature and drama to society; how they both influence, and are affected by, factors such as the culture, language and economics of their time. You’ll also learn techniques that will allow you to better engage and affect audiences with your own drama practice and writing.

Our drama provision focuses on performance. You’ll work on public productions and smaller-scale projects, exploring texts and practices from the 20th century onwards as well as devising your own productions. To gain experience of group collaboration, you’ll have the chance to work with students from other courses, such as Performing Arts and Music, creating innovative and daring performance practice.

Meanwhile, by studying English literature, you will in turn explore many other subjects at the same time, including history, politics, philosophy, religion, psychology and the history of art. As well as developing skills in literacy and communication – important for any career – you will also become well-versed in methods of literary research, such as bibliographies, databases and information technology.

Our optional modules will give you the chance to practise your own creative writing, weight your studies towards drama theory or performance or specialise towards a particular career, such as directing, publishing or dramatherapy.

You can also choose to take up a work placement to get valuable experience in your preferred industry, perhaps with a professional touring theatre company or a publishing house. Our own Anglia Ruskin Community Theatre Company can give you further experience of working with a professional director on local projects.
