University Foundation in Architecture Leading to Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architectural Technology

Program Overview

University Foundation in Architecture Stage1 at Anglia Ruskin University College is designed to prepare you for entry to university-level program. During Stage 1 you will complete a range of modules relevant to your chosen degree, as well as modules concentrating on the skills that are vital for University level education such as Critical Thinking.

Foundation
A Foundation pathway is available for students who:

  • Don’t meet the entry requirements to enter university level study directly (but hold GCSE level qualifications)
  • Feel that additional support at the start of university studies will help them stand a better chance of success
  • Have been away from studies for a period of time
  • Come from a different academic environment to that of the UK
  • Require additional English language training

If you fall into any of the above categories, choosing an undergraduate pathway at ARU College is the right decision. Depending on your academic needs here at ARU College we have two pathway entry points available, foundation and first year pathway.

Progressing from Foundation
Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 you will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree. There is no need to reapply, you will simply just progress between each stage until you reach the final stage and graduate with a degree from ARU Collge

BSC (Hons) Architectural Technology

At ARU, our Architectural Technology degree course focuses on the link between building design and production. It gives you the technical understanding to bridge the two.

Architectural technology has four major themes: technology, design, management and practice. Studying our university degree course will give you the skills you need to practise successfully in each area, along with a thorough understanding of scientific, technological and organisational principles. Explore the principles of practice management, rationalized architectural design and how to lead projects from inception to completion in both residential to commercial areas. You will learn to play a pivotal role in the design and construction process.

Focusing on the relationships between materials, function, production and the environment, our course will help you to think about buildings in terms of ‘buildability’, sustainability and performance. By studying Architectural Technology at ARU, you'll learn to appreciate detailed design and production information, including regulatory issues, and how they relate to procurement and contract administration. You will also explore social, legal and economic considerations.

As well as this, you'll cover business and management, professional practice and contract administration. This will prepare you to contribute to the running of a successful practice.

Site visits and study trips will develop your understanding of the sector and connect you with industry. You will also learn to use practical and digital modelling and testing techniques to turn designs into reality. At our end-of-year Architecture and Planning Exhibition, you will have the chance to display your work to the public.
