Benefits of an undergraduate foundation

  • Study academic modules related to your progression degree
  • Develop your English language skills in a university setting
  • Receive an introduction to university life and improve your study skills
  • Prepare for your career with CareerAhead – our employability skills program

Course Overview
Formerly known as Business and Social Studies, this pathway will prepare you for your chosen undergraduate degree at the Strathclyde Business School or Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. You will study three core modules that will focus on general skills useful in your chosen progression degree, plus route modules specific to your academic area.

Who is this course for?
Ambitious students who are passionate about business, humanities and social sciences will benefit from our introductory program to study at a UK university. Through subject-specific modules and English language lessons, this program is the perfect way to bridge the gap between studying in your home country and at the University of Strathclyde.

Why study this program?
Studying our Undergraduate Foundation Program in Business and Social Sciences means you will:

  • Spend your first year of study in a friendly and supportive community of international students
  • Be introduced to the Scottish education system by our expert staff
  • Learn the basics of your chosen progression degree in preparation for joining the second year of your degree at the University (some exceptions apply).

What you will study

  • Academic English Skills
    • Academic English Skills aims to provide you with thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable you to best achieve your academic potential at University. These skills include the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence, in an academic context.
  • Quantitative Methods
    • This module aims to develop students’ statistical data analysis skills. The students will learn about statistical techniques for data analysis and interpretation of qualitative data. A statistical data analysis tool SPSS® will be used in this module for analysing big data sets. Knowledge and ability to use SPSS® will enhance the employability skills of our students.

Economics and Psychology
Following the recent global economic crisis, economics is more important and relevant than ever. Decisions on money, banking, interest rates, taxation and government spending affect us all, with global consequences.
Economics aims to understand the activities of the different agents in the economy – consumers, producers and the government – and how they all fit together.
Our degree will give you the ability to explain complex data in simple terms to different audiences. You’ll also develop excellent mathematical, statistical and problem-solving skills.
In Psychology, you’ll study human behaviour. Psychological research is motivated by the desire to understand both general behaviour (how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others) and the reasons for the differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.
Please note, a joint Honours degree is not accredited for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership by the British Psychological Society.
