Undergraduate Foundation Program in Engineering and Sciences (3 Term), Leading to Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics with Teaching (International)

Program Overview

Undergraduate Foundation Programme in Engineering and Sciences
The Undergraduate Foundation Programme in Engineering and Sciences is a preparation programme for international students who don’t meet the direct entry requirements for an undergraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde. This pathway will prepare you for your chosen undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Science. Once you successfully complete the programme, you will progress to the second year of a four-year undergraduate degree.

You will study three core modules that will focus on general skills useful in your progression degree, plus route modules specific to your academic area.

Once you have completed the Undergraduate Foundation Programme, and subject to satisfying the progression criteria, you can proceed to the second year* of your four-year degree at the University.

Leading to: Physics with Teaching (International) BSc (Hons)
There is a shortage of physics teachers across the UK. This 4-years degree is offered in conjunction with The Strathclyde Institute of Education within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science and it is a qualification designed to prepare graduates to become teachers of physics in secondary schools and fill this gap.

This degree not only covers the same core physics syllabus as the BSc Physics degree but also allows students the time to acquire the educational theory and classroom practice necessary for registration with General Teaching Council recognition.

There is a strong emphasis on laboratory work and this will help you develop a sound understanding of experimental physics and instrumentation.

In your fourth year you will join The Strathclyde Institute of Education and undertake a number of modules designed to prepare you to be a secondary school teacher. This will include a number of placements in schools.
