International Foundation Year in Health and Human Sciences (2 Semesters), Leading to Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Literature and History

Program Overview

International Foundation Year in Health and Human Sciences

The International Foundation Year in Health & Human Sciences will prepare you for a range of degrees in fields related to health, such as physiotherapy, sports science, podiatry and pharmaceutical science. It can also prepare you for studying degrees in behavioural sciences, such as psychology, sociology and criminology.

You will study core modules, which are general skills subjects, and specialised modules tailored to your chosen area of study - all of which are important for your academic development.

Why study Engineering, Computing & Science?

  • Graduate from the University with a professionally accredited degree – without the years of study required for a degree in medicine
  • Degrees typically include placements, such as clinical practice in local hospitals and NHS trusts, to gain practical experience in a real-world setting
  • Access a range of specialist facilities, including a biomechanics laboratory, formulation lab (for making and testing medicines), physiology labs and physiotherapy practical rooms
  • Early preparation for your future career with support for your NHS interview for clinical practice and integrated CareerAhead activities
  • Benefit from engagement with University departments and local business and employers in advance of starting your degree.

Once you have succesfully completed International Foundation Year in Health & Human Sciences, and achieving the required grades, you will join the first year of your undergraduate degree at the University of Huddersfield.

Leading to: English Literature and History BA (Hons)

Do great works of literature inspire you? Are you fascinated by the events and the people that have shaped the modern world? The chance to study English Literature and History side by side gives you a unique and enriching view of both subjects as they can inform each other. Here are a few good reasons to choose this combined course at Huddersfield:

  • We offer a wide range of module options to choose from, diverse and unique forms of coursework assessment, and excellent employment prospects.
  • You learn applied skills as well as academic knowledge.
  • We get you out of the classroom on a range of exciting fieldtrips.
  • Every year students also have the chance to get involved in events at the Huddersfield Literature Festival.

The English Literature element of the course spans hundreds of years of inspiration, from the English Renaissance of the 16th century right up to the present day. So whether you love Elizabethan drama or twenty-first-century poetry, the Victorian period or Modernist writing, you’ll be able to indulge your tastes and gain some new interests. Your choices on the History side of your degree are equally wide ranging. We’ll cover the cultural, social, historical and political dimensions of key events and eras that have had a huge impact on today’s civilisation. Along the way you’ll be able to study conflicts, empires, disasters and more, from the medieval period right through to contemporary society.
