International Foundation Year in Business, Management and Law

The International Foundation Year in Business, Management & Law prepares you for an undergraduate degree in fields such as accounting, finance, law, marketing and logistics.

You will study core modules, which are general skills subjects, and optional modules tailored to your chosen area of study, all of which are important for your academic development.

Once you have succesfully completed International Foundation Year in Business, Management and Law, and achieving the required grades, you will join the first year of your undergraduate degree at the University of Huddersfield.

Leading to: Law and Practice MLaw

This course aims to develop your skills in interviewing, advocacy, drafting legal documents, legal ethics/conducts/procedures, supporting you to develop a career as a solicitor in England and Wales. You’ll also gain a host of transferrable skills, such as how to construct an argument, how to communicate with clients, the importance of attention to detail and critical thinking, being creative, and the ability to work on your own and as a team. You can volunteer in the Legal Advice Centre and the Moot Scheme, where you’ll witness law in action and develop competences to be a solicitor. Our Mentoring Scheme and the Law Careers Fair will allow you to network with our Partner Law firms, introducing you to opportunities for work experience/employment with them.

Why study MLaw (incorporating LLB(Hons)) Law and Practice

You’ll be taught my both practitioners and legal academics who bring their industry and research expertise into classroom teaching.

In addition to specialised legal databases (i.e., Westlaw, Lexis Library) and journals (via Heinonline, Jstor), you’ll have access to over 200 law eBooks (textbooks) via Law Trove, included in your course fees.

Together with the Functioning Legal Knowledge modules (Criminal Law, Contract Law, Land Law Tort, EU, Public Law), you’ll study a range of practice-focused modules, including:

Scholarships for your pathway programme and degree at Huddersfield:

In celebration of the ten year anniversary of the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre, we are pleased to offer a joint scholarship opportunity with the University of Huddersfield. The scholarship will provide you with up to £10,000 in funding over the course of your time at Huddersfield.

How does it work?
Scholarships of up to £4,000 are available for students studying a pathway programme at the International Study Centre. These scholarships are awarded to students based on merit and are subject to availability. For more information, please contact your local representative.

Once you progress to the University of Huddersfield, the University then award scholarships of £2,000 each academic year to international students progressing from the International Study Centre. These scholarships apply to every year of your degree programme in the UK, except for placement years.

Am I eligible for the joint scholarship?
The scholarship is available to students studying the International Foundation Year, International Year One and Pre-Master’s programmes at the International Study Centre. At the University, you must be studying either a BA, BSc, BEng, MA, MSc or MBA to be eligible for the scholarship.

How do I get a scholarship?
The joint scholarship is available for self-funded students at UK universities, paying full overseas fees.
University scholarships are applied automatically on progression from the International Study Centre, with no application required.

Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa for the graduates with a genuine and credible business idea.
Tier 2 (General) is the leading immigration visa to work in the UK.
Tier 4 Doctorate Extension Scheme is for students who have completed their Ph.D. and is valid for 12 months for them to work, look for work or set up a business.
Tier 5 Youth Mobility is for individuals of certain countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, and New Zealand aged between 18 -30 who wish to move to the UK.
Tier 5 GAE is for individuals who want to come to the UK for work experience, training, research or a fellowship.
UK Ancestry is for individuals who are a citizen of a commonwealth and plan to work in the UK and have a grandparent who was born in the UK.
