Program Overview

University Foundation in Property and Surveying Stage1 at International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth is designed to prepare you for entry to university-level program. During Stage 1 you will complete a range of modules relevant to your chosen degree, as well as modules concentrating on the skills that are vital for University level education such as Critical Thinking.

Foundation

A Foundation pathway is available for students who:

• Don’t meet the entry requirements to enter university level study directly (but hold GCSE level qualifications)
• Feel that additional support at the start of university studies will help them stand a better chance of success
• Have been away from studies for a period of time
• Come from a different academic environment to that of the UK
• Require additional English language training

Progressing from Foundation

Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 you will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree. There is no need to reapply, you will simply just progress between each stage until you reach the final stage and graduate with a degree from International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth.

Building Surveying

From advising on the specification of new development proposals to assessing the viability of repairs and renovations, building surveyors are at the heart of decision-making in construction projects.

This BSc (Hons) Building Surveying degree course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). It gives you the technical skills and hands-on experience to perform this pivotal role and is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.

What you'll experience

On this degree course, you'll:

• Study and work alongside students from other surveying and civil engineering disciplines, just like you will in your career
• Learn from practising building surveyors and guest speakers
• Develop the skills you need for a specialist career in building surveying, as well as abilities relevant to facilities management, project management and building conservation
• Get out of the classroom with hands-on practical surveying in real buildings
• Use laboratory and test house facilities, where you’ll study material performance, surveying and Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques
• Put theory to the test on field trips to locations such as the Passivhaus standard housing development, school refurbishment projects and The National Self Building and Renovation Centre
• Gain valuable experience with an optional salaried work placement at the end of your 2nd year
