  • This BSc (Hons) Computer Games Technology degree course gives you the experience and skills you need for a career in the computer game development industry – and in businesses that are increasingly using gaming technology such as simulation training, healthcare and web design.
  • Year 1 provides insights into every aspect of the subject, including art, programming and design, with the following 2 years allowing you to design your own path of expertise. The optional placement year gives you the chance to work within the industry or set up your own company.
  • Throughout your degree, you'll benefit from our teaching staff's years of experience working in the computer games world and their commitment to making sure you've got the competitive edge when it comes to starting a career in this rapidly expanding industry.
  • On this Computer Games Technology degree you'll:
    • Use some of the most advanced gaming development facilities at any university in the country
    • Bring your ideas to life using our Sony console development kits, motion capture facilities and virtual reality lab
    • Perfect your skills with professional software such as the Unreal Engine, Maya, 3DS Max, and Microsoft Visual Studio
    • Learn the fundamentals of game development, such as design techniques, animation, 3D modelling and coding
    • Develop your entrepreneurial skills with the opportunity to set up your own innovative business

Placement year

  • Many of our students choose to do an optional placement year after the second year of study. Previous students have worked with gaming and tech companies such as Sega, IBM, and Climax.
  • If you're interested in running your own business on your placement year instead, you can. Along with fellow, like-minded students, you can create a gaming product and release it into the market.
  • Whether you do a placement or set up a business, you'll receive support and guidance. You'll have access to Creative Careers, a team based in the faculty helping students to find placement opportunities within the creative industries. They'll provide you with a database of placement vacancies, support with your job search – including help with applications and interviews – and support throughout your placement year.
