Why study the International Foundation Year?
This program is designed to prepare you to enter the first year of your undergraduate degree. By studying the International Foundation Year, you will benefit from:
What you will study
The International Foundation Year is made up of several cores and route-specific modules that will better your understanding of your chosen subject area. Depending on your choice of pathway, you can cater your modules to benefit your future career path. The course will also incorporate English language tuition, which will be focused on improving your speaking, writing and academic language skills, and prepare you for learning in a second language.
International Foundation Year in Social Sciences
Our Social Sciences programme will prepare you for a degree across a range of areas, including Film, History, Journalism, Politics, Television and Psychology.
Film Cultures
At Kingston University, we study films as part of the broader culture, because that's how they work in real life. Films are - and have always been - adapted from novels, plays, comic books, and news stories. They're communicated and marketed through journalism and social media and may co-exist with a TV show, spin off into a video game, or inspire fans to write their own fiction. Film is a dynamic medium that interacts with many other cultural forms, and that's our approach to this degree.
Study with supportive teachers and in masterclasses from professionals and industry experts where you will gain a solid practical, theoretical, and historical basis in creative writing for and about film, and in the key research and writing skills needed to develop an argument, prove your case, and back it up with evidence.
Assessments for this course combine traditional essays and presentations with creative work where you'll demonstrate your understanding through practice - for instance, a short screenplay, a series of reviews for different media platforms and audiences, or a video essay.
You will graduate with both a humanities degree and a portfolio of work that will help prepare you for an exciting career in areas as diverse as journalism, archive curation, festival organisation, scriptwriting, copywriting, and academia.
