The Langara animation programs recently completed the final phase of a comprehensive review of our programs as part of our Quality Assurance Process Audit, and we’re pleased to announce the launch of our new 2D animation program starting in Summer 2025! The former 2D Animation & Digital Art program is now the 2D Technologies for Film & Games program.
The new 2D Technologies for Film & Games program is an intensive 16-month diploma program that equips students with high-quality and industry-relevant training. Graduates of the program will have the skills they need to thrive in the exciting 2D animation field.
Combine your artistic abilities with technical skills through our 2D Technologies for Film & Games program. Draw and design your own characters and bring them to life through animation, sound, and storytelling. Under the guidance of expert instructors, you’ll learn how to move a project from concept to final product using industry-standard tools. You’ll also learn how to capture movement and form through our series of Life Drawing courses, and you’ll get the skills you need to succeed in your studies and career through our Professional Development courses.
This in-depth program prepares graduates for a range of roles in the animation industry. Our program runs for four consecutive semesters to fast-track you into launching your career, simulating the intensity of working in a real-world production studio. Graduates will exit the program with a diploma from one of BC’s most respected public colleges and a professional portfolio and demo reel.

Animation is a major industry in Vancouver, BC. Our city boasts over 60 VFX and Animation studios, which is the world’s largest cluster of domestic and foreign-owned studios. As well, BC’s post production and visual effects facilities work on commercials, music videos, interactive game content, animation, films and TV series. BC’s animation companies are some of the most prolific production developers of computer animation for TV and long-form CGI for feature films, commercials and interactive entertainment.
You will learn about the creative and practical processes behind animation as you develop artistic skills and digital techniques, which will prepare you to take on various roles in the animation and digital art field.

The International Regional Entrance Scholarships were established to financially support international students coming to Langara College in pursuit of higher education. Applicants can apply for the $7,500 award if they are planning to start their full-time undergraduate studies in the specified semester. Eligible recipients will have $5,000 applied towards the cost of tuition and fees in their first term of study. Recipients must maintain a CGPA of 2.67 in their first term and be registered full-time in an eligible program to receive the balance of their award as tuition credit in their second term of study. Any student who wishes to study in Canada requires a student visa. Some of the essential information for the application process is given below.
Ideally, one should apply for the study permit at least 4 to 6 months before the commencement of your course/program.
There is no need for a blocked bank account to apply for a student visa to Canada.
The student visa is valid for the entire period of your course plus three months.

The Post- Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows you to work for three years in Canada if you have completed a two years degree or more.
You can either apply online or download the form and mail the application along with the required documents. Pay your fee and then wait for the decision to come.
To apply for the work visa, you need a degree from a recognized and accredited Canadian University along with an intention to stay and work in Canada only temporarily.
One can apply for the full-time work permit in the first three months post the completion of their course during which the study permit is still valid.
You will have to wait for 90 days for the decision on your work permit.
The work permit is valid for 3 years if you have completed a two years degree program or more.
The fee for the work permit is CAD 255 plus the holder fee and the work permit processing fee.
An applicant is guaranteed a minimum salary of CAD 1,600 per month while working in Canada. This amount though varies on the job and the province you are working in.
There is no maximum limit, and you can work for as many hours as you want on the full-time work permit.
