Program Overview

The Master of Science program in artificial intelligence engineering with a concentration in aerospace engineering combines advanced study in AI approaches with deep domain expertise in aerospace engineering.

The use of AI approaches, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics and pattern recognition, is becoming widespread in aerospace engineering. Aerospace engineers increasingly rely on AI algorithms and machine learning models to design and optimize aircraft, to improve predictive maintenance and visual inspections, to optimize flight paths, and more. Similar approaches are being applied for spacecraft design and operations, raising demand for aerospace engineers with competencies in both AI tools and in core aerospace disciplines.

Students learn how to develop and customize relevant AI approaches to aerospace engineering problems. A core curriculum in AI engineering foundations, AI systems and tools, AI ethics and social responsibility, and data collection and evaluation for AI systems is complemented by aerospace engineering-specific courses to ensure breadth and depth in AI and in aerospace engineering.

Graduate students who are admitted with deficiencies must meet the deficiencies in order to become eligible for a scholarship award.

ASU-USA Pathways admission and progression scholarships

Admitted students are guaranteed $8,500 awarded for the 3-semester program, or $3,600 for 1-semester. Earned Pathways students are eligible for the scholarship in their first full Pathways session after they gain full admission. On successful completion of ASU-USA Pathways, students with GPA 3.25+ are awarded an ASU bachelor’s program tuition scholarship of $5,000, renewable annually.*

Kaplan International award

Students who do not meet the criteria for an ASU scholarship may be eligible for a Kaplan-funded partial scholarship (average $2,000) if they are unconditionally admitted to a bachelor’s or master’s degree. For undergraduates, the Kaplan award is given each semester until completion of their first spring semester at ASU. After that, if the student has no NAmU scholarship, the Kaplan award will be renewed* by ASU for 6 or 7 additional semesters. For graduates, Kaplan-funded awards are not renewable.

Work Permit

PGWP

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.
