Program Overview

Interested in the technical side of media? Arguably one of the most exciting parts of the industry you can work in, this field offers opportunities to develop, install and maintain equipment used in live television and film. Our graduates have been working in the background of the most popular content viewed in the UK for 25 years, and you could be joining them.

  • You will study the fundamental principles behind the latest media and broadcast technologies, with an emphasis on how these relate to current working technologies. You will be supported to develop the skills to become those installing, operating and maintaining the latest TV studios, outside broadcast vehicles and cinemas after graduation.
  • Throughout your studies you will have access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities to enhance your practical skills, these include our Dolby Atmos Cinema, and our full HD outside broadcasting vehicle. Solent University are one of a few institutions to own an HD outside broadcast vehicle which allows students to hone their craft at a variety of high profile events across the academic year. This regularly includes live broadcast transmission for BBC Children in Need, multi-camera stage feeds at Glastonbury Festival, Hampshire FA Cup Final and a variety of political, sports and music events around the South coast.
  • The academic team maintain excellent links with industry and alumni, which gives you the opportunity to learn valuable industry insight from guest lecturers who regularly visit to present on specialist subjects. Recent speakers have included; managing director of Vanguardia Consulting, an independent film sound designer and representatives from Advanced Communications Solutions.
  • Work experience opportunities are also heavily embedded into the curriculum, and you will be offered a variety of work experience and placement opportunities with companies specialising in anything from sports TV production, studio/venue installations, to hardware and software design. Students that participate in the opportunities frequently secure their first job as a result of the experience gained.
