Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Facilities and Built Asset Management

Program Overview

Buildings and construction are about much more than mere bricks and mortar. Ultimately, the sole purpose of buildings and facilities are to serve the needs of the people and businesses that use them. To do this well, real estate and facilities need to be expertly managed – and that is where you come in. If you’re seeking a career that combines leadership with forward-planning, problem-solving and global opportunities for career progression, then facilities management could be the specialism for you. The University of Bolton’s BSc (Hons) Facilities and Built Asset Management degree offers you the knowledge and skills you need to enter this exciting and rewarding area of employment.

Improving the productivity of businesses and the quality of life of the people who work in their buildings is a key goal of facilities managers. Our expert team will focus on teaching you how to manage the building and environmental services and processes that support core business performance effectively and efficiently. Our aim is to prepare you to take responsibility for essential activities such as building maintenance, environmental services, catering, cleaning, reception and security that underpin the smooth running of an organisation.

We’ll support you as you explore essential areas such as property asset management, service management, compliance, management systems, procurement and contract management, finance, and business continuity. You’ll consider areas such as health and safety, risk, space planning and gain an appreciation of how facilities management impacts on areas such as IT and human resources and the workplace as a whole. We’ll guide you as you learn about strategy and policy, change and programme management, collaboration and influencing, as well as operational and technical leadership. Our focus will be on helping you develop the skills and knowledge required for occupational success in this diverse, challenging and varied field of occupation.
