This combined bachelor’s and master’s degree, the only one of its kind in WA, provides you with in-depth knowledge of the theory and practical skills required for secondary teaching.

Major: Political Science and International Relations

Societies can only continue to exist if they solve the problem of internal order and are able to protect themselves from external threats. Political Science and International Relations studies how societies govern themselves and the collective decisions, or public policies, they need, or choose, to make. Attention is given to the different ways government is organised; values such as liberty, participation, majority rule and minority rights that inform political institutions and public policy; and ideologies such as conservatism, liberalism, socialism, feminism and environmentalism that have motivated much political action in modern societies. Studies also focus on the ways in which states and peoples interact with other states, regional or global political organisations, and social movements in an increasingly interdependent world.

Students from all countries are eligible. You will need to:
Have received an offer for an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate course for 2026 at The University of Western Australia
Have achieved an equivalent:
- Minimum ATAR 85.00; or
- Minimum WAM 65.00
- If studying an approved International Academic Pathway (Articulation Program), students must have achieved a WAM equivalent of more than 75.00

To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must be applying for an eligible undergraduate bachelor degree or Assured Pathway course. The following exclusions apply:

All Combined Bachelor’s and Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are considered eligible.

Whilst most of these degrees are over four years (based on 8 semesters of full time study), the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce; and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science; are over five years (based on 10 semesters of full time study) and as such, eligible students will receive up to $60,000* over five years (yearly eligible amounts based on WAM).

The University of Western Australia is offering a $5,000* per year tuition fee reduction for students from selected countries. The International Student Award promotes a diverse student community and helps more students from around the world achieve their study and career goals at UWA.

Work Permit

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
