Our interdisciplinary biochemistry Ph.D. program, which includes biology, biochemistry and biomedicine, gives you opportunities to complete basic or translational research in areas from cancer, infectious disease and neuroscience to immunology, cell signaling and developmental biology. You'll use a wide variety of techniques to explore a spectrum of important biological questions through innovative, collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches.

You’ll be supported by a collaborative research environment including open-concept research labs, core facilities and specialty labs, such as our microscopy facility, and flow cytometry, insectary and radioisotope labs.
Your program will be individually tailored to emphasize professional skills and career development. You will work closely and regularly with your advisor and a committee of faculty to identify a personalized program of elective courses and create and cultivate an individual development plan.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
