Molecular biotechnology examines how living systems function and how that knowledge is used in research and industry. You’ll start by growing cultures, observing cell behavior and testing how biological processes respond to change.
Biosciences connect biology, chemistry and technology to study life at every level. In this program, that means working with the same equipment found in research labs, hospitals and biotech companies.
This major is less about memorizing facts and more about asking questions, running experiments and doing science that matters. You’ll learn through trial, error and observation. And you’ll build the habits and skills that real scientific work depends on.
Our biotechnology major
This program prepares you for the realities of lab work. You’ll learn to manage procedures and explain your results in clear, professional terms. Lab-based courses are paired with faculty research and industry-informed training to keep your learning grounded in real-world application.
In the molecular biology concentration, you can focus on genetics or investigate the behavior of cells under stress. Some students work with bioinformatics to explore large-scale patterns. Your training will align with how science is practiced in fields like medical diagnostics, food safety or environmental research.
Along the way, you’ll gain experience presenting findings and thinking critically under pressure.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
