Masters Qualifying Program (MQP), Leading to Master of Information Systems and Technology - Governance and Sustainability

Program Overview

The Master Qualifying Program (MQP) is a one-semester non-award program designed for students who already have a tertiary qualification but who do not qualify for direct entry into a Master’s degree at Curtin University. The emphasis is on developing the skills necessary to succeed in postgraduate-level studies.

Leading to: Master of Information Systems and Technology

Effective management of information and communication is critical to business success. This master degree will prepare you for careers leading and enhancing the ICT capabilities of organisations.

During the course you will gain technical skills in programming, data communications, database design, and system analysis and design.

You'll build expertise in the management and application of information systems and technology, and examine the impact of technology on the changing business environment – with a particular focus on AI and its adoption in business.

What you'll learn

  • recommend and manage innovative uses of technology and data driven approaches to improve business and societal outcomes locally and globally
  • evaluate the impact of existing and emerging information and communications technologies on stakeholders, including cultural, ethical, inclusivity, privacy, security and sustainability considerations
  • engage stakeholders and access, evaluate and synthesise information from multiple sources to identify business requirements
  • apply systems theory and systems development techniques to design and develop information systems appropriate to a range of business organisations and to participate effectively in a global environment
  • effectively communicate information and system business cases, requirements, policies and procedures, strategies, system designs, specifications and implementation details to a professional standard

Specialisation: Governance and Sustainability

In this Master of Information Systems and Technology specialisation, you will develop the skills required for senior-level roles in enterprise governance, green information and sustainability.

You’ll learn sustainable and green information technology (IT) frameworks and practices that minimise negative environmental impacts of IT operations, and provide sustainable options for the future.

You'll consider how corporate strategy, IS/IT strategy and organisational design are drivers to implement contemporary technologies in business. You’ll also explore the requirements and impact of enterprise governance – the processes and practices that ensure an organisation operates effectively, ethically and in alignment with its strategic objectives.

You'll get practical insights into ICT applications through an industry-based project, and you can gain real-world experience and global exposure by completing an internship or international study tour.
