Graduate Certificate in Community and Health Services Navigation AND Graduate Certificate in Addictions and Mental Health(Bundle Program)

Program Overview

 Community and Health Services Navigation

Life can be confusing when you need help with health care or community services. A navigator is an effective listener who understands how individuals and families can access complex services like health care, developmental and educational institutions, law and justice systems, mental health and addiction agencies, women’s centres, and social welfare systems, guiding people to the care they need.

Give yourself a competitive edge in the workforce by gaining an in-depth knowledge of resources across the province. Whether you are a helping professional or new to the field, you will interact with a variety of professionals and rapidly build industry connections in this rewarding pursuit. From assessments and care plans to advocacy and conflict resolution, you will train to be a pillar of support that can help people work through barriers and transform their lives.

 Addictions and Mental Health

Empower yourself with the knowledge and skills you need to be the catalyst for change in the lives of those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. In this client-centred and culturally relevant program, courses in addiction, mental health disorders, treatment, prevention, counselling, and case management will give you the tools to deliver frontline care to diverse groups and individuals.

Your third semester is a six-week field placement or capstone project where you will apply your skills to real-world active cases and become part of a professional care team supporting those living with mental health and addiction concerns.

Program Highlights

  • Combination of theory and practical learning
  • Choice of placement or capstone project in the final semester, followed by a debriefing
  • Optional opportunities to participate in training relevant to the field, which may include Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training, and Naloxone training
  • Complete all formal education hours required for voluntary certification with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF), please note that additional clinical hours are required for certification
