In short, the study of History is essential, and at St Mary’s you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of different historical periods, countries, and themes.
You will immerse yourself in histories of Britian, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and America, ranging from the medieval period to the present day. You will study the rise and fall of states, the causes of wars and revolutions, and social and political movements.
You will be doing much more than learning what happened, you will be interpreting sources, explaining how and why societies change, and thinking about why that is important, and by doing this you will be equipping yourself to analyse the many challenges of today’s world.
Studying History at St Mary’s will also give you the opportunity to develop skills such as conducting research, analysing evidence, and communicating your findings that employers look for in a range of careers. Our recent graduates have gone on to further study or to work in fields as diverse as law, finance, marketing, public relations, teaching, museums and heritage.
You may also qualify for the new St Mary's History Scholarship.
