Advanced Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging Technology X-Ray/CT

Program Overview

Play an important role in Canadian healthcare

As a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist (DIT), you'll be a vital part of healthcare teams working closely with patients across all stages of care. This advanced diploma program is the second of its kind in Ontario to offer specialized training in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT. You'll build skills required for delivering patient-centred care in a variety of healthcare settings.

Specialize in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT
In your first year, you'll gain foundational knowledge about how MRI, ultrasound and X-ray/CT equipment capture images. You'll then take specialized courses in your chosen discipline during Year 2 and Year 3 of the program. After you graduate, you can obtain your second diagnostic imaging specialty within one academic year by completing seven more courses.

Diagnostic Imaging Technology – X-Ray/CT
The X-ray and CT specialization prepares you to become a versatile imaging technologist, trained to capture detailed images using X-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) technology. From emergency trauma cases to routine diagnostic exams, you'll learn to combine technical precision with compassionate patient care, making you an essential member of the healthcare team.

Highlights

  • Train to operate X-ray and CT scanners to capture detailed images of bones, organs and tissues.
  • Learn to safely work with ionizing radiation, ensuring patient and personal safety.
  • Develop critical thinking skills to adapt imaging techniques for different patient needs.
  • Practice in high-tech simulation labs using advanced imaging software and virtual anatomy tools.
  • Complete three clinical placements (more than 1,300 hours) at hospitals, clinics and imaging centres.
  • Build strong communication skills to guide patients through procedures and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Prepare to write the national certification exam (CAMRT) to become a Registered Medical Radiation Technologist (RTR).
