Advanced Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging Technology Ultrasound

Program Overview

Play an important role in Canadian healthcare

As a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist (DIT), you'll be a vital part of healthcare teams working closely with patients across all stages of care. This advanced diploma program is the second of its kind in Ontario to offer specialized training in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT. You'll build skills required for delivering patient-centred care in a variety of healthcare settings.

Specialize in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT
In your first year, you'll gain foundational knowledge about how MRI, ultrasound and X-ray/CT equipment capture images. You'll then take specialized courses in your chosen discipline during Year 2 and Year 3 of the program. After you graduate, you can obtain your second diagnostic imaging specialty within one academic year by completing seven more courses.

Diagnostic Imaging Technology – Ultrasound
The ultrasound specialization trains you to become a skilled diagnostic medical sonographer, using high-frequency sound waves to create images that help healthcare teams assess and diagnose medical conditions. You'll develop technical imaging skills, compassionate patient-care techniques and the confidence to work in hospitals, clinics and
specialized imaging centres.

Highlights

  • Learn to operate ultrasound equipment to capture real-time images of internal organs, tissues and blood flow.
  • Master patient positioning, imaging techniques and image interpretation.
  • Develop strong communication skills to guide and comfort patients during procedures.
  • Experience hands-on learning in simulation labs, virtual anatomy platforms and clinical placements.
  • Complete three clinical placements (more than 1,300 hours) in real healthcare settings.
  • Prepare for the national certification exam with Sonography Canada to become a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
  • Explore innovations like 3D/4D imaging and point-of-care ultrasound used in modern healthcare.
