Advanced Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging Technology - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Program Overview

Play an important role in Canadian healthcare

As a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist (DIT), you'll be a vital part of healthcare teams working closely with patients across all stages of care. This advanced diploma program is the second of its kind in Ontario to offer specialized training in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT. You'll build skills required for delivering patient-centred care in a variety of healthcare settings.

Specialize in MRI, ultrasound or X-ray/CT
In your first year, you'll gain foundational knowledge about how MRI, ultrasound and X-ray/CT equipment capture images. You'll then take specialized courses in your chosen discipline during Year 2 and Year 3 of the program. After you graduate, you can obtain your second diagnostic imaging specialty within one academic year by completing seven more courses.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The MRI specialization prepares you to work with cutting-edge Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology, producing high-quality images that help healthcare teams diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions. Through hands-on labs, immersive simulations and clinical placements, you'll develop the technical expertise, patient care skills and critical thinking needed to thrive in this fast-paced field.

Highlights

  • Learn to operate MRI scanners to capture detailed images of organs, tissues and bones.
  • Develop skills to ensure patient safety and comfort in an MRI environment.
  • Gain hands-on experience with virtual reality anatomy labs and advanced imaging simulations.
  • Complete three clinical placements (more than 1,300 hours) at partner hospitals and clinics.
  • Build communication skills to work closely with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Prepare to write the national certification exam (CAMRT) to become a Registered MRI Technologist.
  • Explore emerging trends in MRI technology, from AI-enhanced imaging to new diagnostic techniques.
