Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biology (Molecular Biology) (Year 3 Entry)

Program Overview

Our Molecular Biology degree is designed to enable you to discover the molecular processes that lie at the heart of biology. These processes support pioneering developments in the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries and increase understanding of essential biological processes. This degree provides knowledge and understanding of molecular and cellular biology, modern techniques for their investigation and how to apply these techniques within effective research.

Throughout the course you will develop essential skills in laboratory and fieldwork and build detailed knowledge of research methodologies. Access to the on site university facilities and field trips may be restricted due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak. All pathways focus on core biological disciplines including plant and animal biology, cell biology, microbial sciences and molecular biology.

Entrants to the programme will have studied to the 2nd year of university level study, for example, an Associate Degree or HND in an appropriate area and will have covered core biological disciplines including plant and animal biology, cell biology and microbiology, biochemistry (particularly enzyme function and metabolic pathways) and cellular sciences. On the programme you will examine cellular and molecular biology and the molecular basis of disease, and consider gene expression in the normal and diseased states.
