Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Building Surveying

Program Overview

Our building surveying degree has been mapped to the requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and we are seeking accreditation from this key professional body. Many other courses within London Met’s School of the Built Environment are already accredited by RICS.

Building Surveyors are involved in a wide range of property and construction activities, from design through to operation of buildings and built environment assets. This building surveying degree course is designed to help you develop in-depth knowledge within the field. Modules you'll undertake in this course include Real Estate Law and Planning, Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Built Environments. You’ll share some first-year modules with students on other courses in the School of the Built Environment, to create a rich learning experience.

Further into your degree, you'll cover subjects such as net-zero in construction, adapting to climate change, sustainable building refurbishment, specification writing, how to administer a construction contract and some of the specialist areas of building surveying such as the Law of Dilapidations and party walls.

All modules offer an unmatched learning experience through applying knowledge to real life situations, complimented with site visits and guest speakers. To prioritise making you as employable as possible, our course centres on teaching you the skills required by employers, such as the application of industry-standard software and outstanding communication skills.

While studying this building surveying degree, you'll also have the option to participate in a professional industry placement. This will help to boost your CV, making you an extremely employable candidate upon completion.

In the third year of your Building Surveying BSc, you'll have a variety of modules to choose from. These include Big Data and the Built Environment and Inclusive Teamwork and Leadership. You will also undertake an Applied Research project which will allow you to explore a particular area of interest you have in the built environment.

Upon completing your studies, you'll gain a Building Surveying BSc degree – a springboard to embarking on a career in surveying and the built environment.
