Understand the human mind and behavior to improve the lives of people around you. Begin your journey toward an advanced degree in psychology.
Why Study Psychology?
The global pandemic revealed the importance and fragility of mental health. In fact, the number of U.S. adults who said they were anxious or depressed went as high as 42%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
By studying psychology, you will learn all about the human mind and behavior. With your knowledge, you can help people recover and become healthier and happier.
The Psychology major is the best foundation for those interested in an advanced degree and future career as a psychologist. Your knowledge and research skills will prepare you for further study at a graduate or Ph.D. program.
By studying psychology, you'll develop helpful, in-demand skills no matter what your future career is. You will hone your analytical thinking skills by studying data. You will improve your communication skills as you collaborate with faculty and peers.
Why Study Psychology at CSUN?
Serve the Community
At CSUN, we teach psychology that is relevant to the real world. Los Angeles is one of the world's most diverse urban regions. Yet many people lack access to mental health and wellness services because of economic and language barriers.
We train our students to use their knowledge and research to serve this population. We work with low-income students and families to help them find solutions to thrive.
Start with the Data
At CSUN, we encourage more than classroom learning. Our undergraduate students join research projects guided by our faculty.
These hands-on experiences put their knowledge into practice. By working together, students and faculty create close relationships. Students are also well-prepared for research positions post-college.
As a teaching university, CSUN strives to have small classroom sizes. Professors provide individual attention to students while sharing their latest published research.
What You'll Learn
You will take general psychology courses to learn major concepts and theories. You will also take statistics and research methods courses to understand and conduct research.
You'll also be able to explore the different fields of psychology by fulfilling the major's breadth requirements. You will take one class in each of the following clusters:

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
