Delivered by the Johns Hopkins Center for Leadership Education, the Master of Science in Global Innovation and Leadership through Engineering is a unique master’s program primarily designed for students without undergraduate engineering degrees who wish to transition into and become leaders in in-demand STEM fields. Our program provides you with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive innovation and lead teams in a global setting. The program emphasizes the importance of cultural awareness, collaboration, and problem-solving in the development of new ideas and technologies.
Open Yourself to the World of Engineering
In addition to core coursework in leadership and innovation, students in the program will choose from one of several technical tracks, including data science, cybersecurity, systems engineering, engineering management, environmental planning and management, and healthcare systems engineering. These tracks will allow students to specialize in a specific area of interest and gain expertise in the tools and techniques needed to succeed in their chosen field.
Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects and case studies, applying their knowledge and skills in a practical setting, as well as the option to travel internationally to collaborate with our industry partners and startup companies. They will also have access to a network of industry professionals and experts who can provide guidance and support as they develop their careers.
Through their experience in the program, students will be prepared to take on leadership roles in a variety of sectors, including technology, healthcare, engineering, and environmental planning. With a master’s degree in Global Innovation and Leadership through Engineering, students will be well-equipped to tackle the complex challenges of the 21st century and drive positive change in their organizations and communities.

FALL 2025 ENGINEERING DEAN’S MASTER’S FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT!
JHU has partnered with the below Indian Institutions and will be offering the Dean’s Master’s Fellowship to select admitted applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from one of the institutions below. This fellowship only applies to those who plan to enroll fall 2025.
The JHU Whiting School of Engineering will select and award, based on merit and academic achievement, the WSE Dean’s Master’s Fellowship to up to 50 admitted students (enrolled as a master’s student in a full-time, resident status). The fellowship awards 50% off full tuition for up to 4 semesters.
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
