As part of this course you'll:

• Be introduced to a range of theories and perspectives on crime and its impact on society
• Go beyond the ordinary: explore topics like desistence and recovery, terrorism, sexual offending, and the criminology of tattooing
• Develop your research skills and conduct your own criminological research
• Gain the skills for a successful career in the criminal justice sector, social services, and legal and policy roles through volunteering, placements, and practitioner skill-focused modules

The modules you'll study throughout your criminology course reflect our lecturers' active research interests, providing a rich teaching experience beyond textbooks. You'll learn from experts in fields such as anti-social behaviour, prisons, desistence, race and crime, and sexual offending. Our teaching staff are members of the university’s Centre for Applied Social Research and are actively engaged in research and policy.

You'll benefit from insights and professional experience shared by guest practitioners as part of your modules. Past speakers have included police officers, magistrates, drug and alcohol practitioners, psychologists, and social workers.

Information and advice about relevant future career options will be built into the first year of your degree. During your second and third years of study, you’ll be able to choose modules with live brief learning challenges (real life projects designed by employers) and work placement opportunities.
