Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) in Adult Nursing

Program Overview

Our BNurs (Hons) Adult Nursing degree adopts a person-centred approach to enable you to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to provide safe and effective nursing care.

The BNurs (Hons) in Adult Nursing will enable you, if successful, to apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to practise as a registered adult nurse in a range of diverse health and social care settings.

As an adult nursing student, the experience you gain will allow you to pursue a range of pathways. In addition, you will also have exposure to patients from other nursing areas including mental health and learning disability, as well as children’s nursing. The opportunities you will have coming into nursing are vast: working clinically, becoming a manager, working in a research environment, working abroad, and in education.

  • Recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for the purpose of registration as a qualified nurse
  • State of the art, hi-tech simulated learning facilities designed to build your skills and confidence in emergency situations
  • Placements within 6 local NHS trusts.

Studying BNurs (Hons) Adult Nursing opens up a world of rewarding opportunities. Becoming a nurse allows you to impact lives, driven by the desire to make a positive change in people's lives. Our adult nursing degree is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to deliver comprehensive care to patients across various healthcare settings. You will have the privilege of being there for people in their time of need, and helping them live happier, more comfortable lives.

During this degree, you will study a range of academic core (all fields of nursing) and field (adult-focused) modules based on theory and practice experiences. As you move through the course, the degree content becomes less generic and more specific to adult nursing.

The core modules include but are not limited to the following:

  • Foundations of Healthcare Practice
  • The Human Life Journey
  • Enhancing Safety and Quality of Care in Adult Nursing

A significant portion of the adult nursing degree experience revolves around our state-of-the-art Skills Labs. These labs serve as a safe and controlled environment where you can actively apply and refine your nursing skills. At the University of Wolverhampton, we place great emphasis on collaboration with service users – individuals who have care needs and personal experiences with care services.

Our curriculum is shaped by the real-world needs of patients. Their valuable insights shape the course content and actively participate in its delivery. As an example, during your Skills Lab sessions, you may have the opportunity to practice essential tasks, such as taking the blood pressure of a service user. This hands-on experience enhances your practical competence while fostering empathy and understanding for the people you will care for in your nursing career.
