Program Overview

Prepare yourself to be a responsive, innovative health care practitioner, who's able to deliver safe, effective and person-centred nursing care in partnership with service users, their families, carers and other professionals and organisations.

You can choose to specialise in adult, child or mental health nursing – preparing you to continue to the degree apprenticeship if you wish and your employer agrees to support you. You'll start by exploring the fundamentals of health care; developing skills in inter-professional team working; and taking a collaborative approach to your work – recognising patients as partners in their care.

You'll also develop valuable skills such as critical thinking, digital literacy and problem solving. Over the course you'll study modules that develop your understanding of the field of nursing; and how you can apply reflective practice and evidence-based practice in your everyday work.

Together, we'll explore how you can act with integrity, adhere to NHS and professional values; and practise competently - applying research findings in practice, and taking account of contemporary health and social care policies, guidelines and legislation (international, national and local).

Throughout the course, we'll encourage you to take control of your own learning – developing your knowledge base and presentation skills in a variety of ways, including portfolios, e-learning, online materials and student-led seminars.
