Analytical chemists explore the composition and structure of substances to better understand how they behave under different conditions. Governors State’s Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry prepares students for employment in public and private laboratories specializing in advanced analytical instrumentation and wet chemical methods. Analytical chemists are highly valued in many fields for their abilities to promote safety, ensure regulatory compliance, support healthcare innovation, and solve industry-related problems.
This graduate major is designed to build upon an undergraduate background in chemistry or a related field, providing a theoretical base in analytical chemistry and practical experience with analytical instrumentation.
Why Get a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry?
As a graduate student in the Analytical Chemistry program, you will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instrumentation, procedures, and computer analysis—practice that is critical to the field. Recognizing the importance of future genetic engineering technology, M.S in Analytical Chemistry includes studies in biochemistry to explore the analytical techniques necessary for the future of chemistry theory.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
