The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (CEE/CS) at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) offers three Bachelor of Science degree programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. These degrees are directly applicable to the expanding computer and electrical engineering industries.
The department is housed in the third floor of the Science III building and also shares laboratory space in Science II and the Engineering Complex. Our laboratory facilities are up-to-date and our program offers a high degree of student-faculty interaction. Our faculty are research and grant active and there is a good opportunity for undergraduate students to assist in faculty research.
The Computer Science degree program at CSUB started in Fall 1985. The computing field covers areas such as hardware drivers and system software, networking, computer security / cybersecurity, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, database systems, application software, software engineering, bioinformatics, web design and online commerce. The Computer Science program is not accredited by ABET, but all degree programs at CSUB are regionally accredited by WSCUC (formerly WASC).
Information Security (IS): This track is for those who wish to specialize in cybersecurity careers. It has similar focuses on theoretical and software concepts as the CS track, but a lighter focus on hardware. IS students also pair their technology core with a global intelligence and national security cognate to understand the geopolitical issues surrounding cybersecurity.
