Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts - Art History

Program Overview

Immerse yourself in the global world of art, architecture, art criticism and curatorial studies to create change at the intersections of visual art, society and culture. Explore practical applications of museum and gallery studies through industry placements at esteemed institutions like the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Royal Ontario Museum with our Public History Certificate. In the classroom, learn under the instruction of established artists with exhibition curation opportunities and access to the Goldfarb Gallery study centre and archive.

The AMDP Advantage:

  • Small class sizes taught by internationally distinguished professional curators, researchers, and art historians.
  • Access to the Joan Goldfarb Art Study Collection with work by Andy Warhol, Jack Bush and Jean-Paul Riopelle for student exhibit curation.
  • Opportunities to collaborate across disciplines with artists in digital media, film, and design.

Program Overview

The Visual Arts - Art History (BA) program curriculum focuses on modern and contemporary art, Canadian Art, Indigenous and settler art of the Americas, Asian art, western art and architecture, as well as art criticism and curatorial studies. Beyond the first year of study, you may choose to concentrate on global art history, modern and contemporary art or curatorial studies. All streams emphasize the relationship between visual art and its social contexts, including global cultural exchange. You will have hands-on access to original works of art to explore practical applications of museum and gallery studies
