Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Science

Program Overview

Lassonde School of Engineering

Want to address major global challenges and solve problems everywhere from Earth to outer space? If you’re curious about the world around you and interested in topics like climate change, satellites and weather forecasting, this is the perfect program to develop your passion. You’ll study the processes driving severe weather and global climate change and learn how to forecast weather. Enhance your degree with a Certificate in Meteorology. Through this program, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills needed to take on a wide variety of important and challenging careers in government and industry.

What You’ll Learn

Atmospheric Science explores meteorology from the turbulent micro scale to the large synoptic scale weather systems. In our program, you will learn how we use computer models to forecast the weather and will develop a deeper understanding of the processes that drive severe weather, climate and climate change. You can top off your degree with a Certificate in Meteorology.

After second year, you can pursue co-op opportunities, gaining professional experience to get a head start towards becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.

Some Courses You'll Take

  • Introduction to Dynamic Meteorology
  • Cloud Physics and Radar Meteorology
  • Atmospheric Meterology
  • Numerical Weather Prediction
  • Climate and Climate Change
  • Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere
  • Storms and Weather Systems

Note: Many students combine a degree in Earth & Atmospheric Science with a certificate in Meteorology (the only undergraduate Meteorology program in Ontario).
