Master of Applied Science in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering

Program Overview

The current world faces challenges with a wide range of public infrastructure issues due to their complex interaction, deterioration due to aging, and the impacts of climate change. There is also a high demand for updating public infrastructure systems and for developing more sustainable ones under climatic change conditions in Canada and worldwide. This course-based master’s program will equip the graduates with necessary skills to develop, operate and maintain sustainable infrastructure systems for the communities. Target areas for the program include but are not limited to pavements, buildings, bridges, dams, drinking water, drainage and sewer systems, waste management, and power supply facilities. The following topics will be covered in detail in different courses of the program:

  • Overview of civil infrastructure system
  • Analysis and design aspects of infrastructure components covering structural, geotechnical, water resources, environmental and transportation engineering related issues
  • Life cycle cost assessment
  • Asset management
  • Infrastructure condition assessment
  • Reliability assessment of existing infrastructure and its component
  • Repair and rehabilitation of deteriorating infrastructure
  • Climate change impact on infrastructure planning design and maintenance
  • Asset management tools (GIS and other software)

The program is intended for graduates and working professionals who wish to increase their knowledge and skills relating to sustainable infrastructure development. The graduates from the program can contribute to the society through working with municipalities, provincial and federal governments, civil and environmental engineering companies in Canada and worldwide.
