USD offers the only master's of music degrees in the state, and our program has been accredited though NASM since 1956 and and by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
We provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to become a professional musician, whether you work as a performer, educator, scholar or a lifelong learner. We award over $240,000 each year in scholarships and opportunities for graduate assistantships, musical development, leadership growth and personal enrichment through mentored performances, classroom study, individual instruction and guided research.
Music
This master’s degree provides several paths of specialization allowing you to dive deep into your area of interest. Whether you choose music history, conducting, collaborative piano or performance, it offers opportunities for musical performances, concerts, marching band competitions, festivals and recitals. The online music education specialization requires one three-day summer workshop.

Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree.
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
