Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering with Specialization in Energy/Environment/Economics (E3)

Program Overview

Illinois Tech’s Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering is a course-only, professionally oriented degree program aimed at broadening student potential, enhancing technical versatility, and in some instances providing the opportunity for changes in career path. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop and improve materials that impact everyday life.

Our Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) specialization provides further focus in a specialized area of energy extraction, conversion, or utilization, and a broad knowledge base about different energy sources; environmental issues related to energy extraction, conversion, and utilization; and the impact of industrial ecology principles on the design and operation of energy systems.

Each student will have the opportunity to develop a program that reflects their professional goals and interests in consultation with an adviser from the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering.

Program Overview

The E3 specialization provides further focus in the areas of energy extraction, conversion, or utilization; environmental issues related to energy extraction, conversion, and utilization; and the impact of industrial ecology principles on the design and operation of energy systems.
