As part of Illinois Institute of Technology’s mission to provide a distinctive and relevant education that focuses on preparing its students for careers that contribute to solving important problems facing humanity, the Department of Biomedical Engineering is now offering the Master of Science in Biomedical Data Science and Modeling program. This program will provide the training relevant for professional employment in computational biomedical engineering. Special emphasis is placed on the principles of mathematical modeling, machine learning, biostatistics, and bioinformatics. The program will prepare students to be able to identify problems related to mathematical modeling, to carry out statistical analyses of biomedical data, to implement machine-learning methods for biomedical applications, and to solve biomedical engineering problems in bioinformatics. Aligning with two of Illinois Tech’s university-wide research initiatives—Computation and Data, and Health and Wellness—the biomedical data science and modeling program will provide its graduates with the fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the ever-evolving and fast-growing biomedical engineering field.

Career Opportunities
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a faster-than-average growth—a 5 percent increase—for biomedical engineering jobs from 2019–2029. Among the careers that graduates can pursue include:
Illinois Tech has several of its own competitive scholarship programs that are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. All domestic undergraduate first-year and transfer students are automatically considered for scholarships that cover a generous portion of expenses such as tuition. Graduate students in select degree programs also may be considered for additional special scholarships, beyond any fellowships that they may receive.
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
Program Level: Master's Degree
