The Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics program at Stuart School of Business prepares students for career opportunities at the intersection of finance and economics in all types of businesses, organizations, and government agencies.
As the only business school in Chicago that’s part of a tech-focused university, Stuart bridges business and technology to provide you with a depth of knowledge in finance and economics, a foundation in business fundamentals that is second to none, and mastery of quantitative and analytical skills that employers seek.

STEM-Designated Program
This is a STEM-designated program, and international graduates of the program are eligible to apply for an extension for Optional Practical Training, which allows selected students to stay and work in the United States for up to three years after graduation.

Stuart’s STEM-designated B.S. in Financial Economics program emphasizes the mastery of interdisciplinary quantitative methods, the application of economic and finance theory, and practical skills that students use in real-world settings. Career Opportunities
The B.S. in Financial Economics degree provides excellent preparation for the private and public sector job markets across a wide range of industries in positions such as policy analysts, financial analysts, management consultants, or economic development practitioners.
Illinois Tech has several of its own competitive scholarship programs that are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. All domestic undergraduate first-year and transfer students are automatically considered for scholarships that cover a generous portion of expenses such as tuition. Graduate students in select degree programs also may be considered for additional special scholarships, beyond any fellowships that they may receive.
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
