Planning is a discipline concerned with effective change and development in a positive and beneficial manner. Buffalo State is the only SUNY comprehensive college that offers an undergraduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning. The program emphasizes technical skills and it is applied in nature - many of the courses are taught by professional planners currently employed by local planning agencies. In particular, our GIS offerings provide students with highly marketable skills. Upper division classes are small (10-20 students), which facilitates individual attention.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
1. Understand the basic themes in the planning field and the multidisciplinary aspects of the profession.
2. Be able to assemble ideas and information from prior planning practice and scholarship and understand its relationship to plan development.
3. Be able to organize planning information into maps, graphs, and other visual representations and analyze that information to seek patterns, relationships, and connections.
