The purpose of this degree program is to prepare teachers intellectually and pragmatically to be effective in urban classrooms and to become leaders in urban school districts. Students seeking entrance into the program who have not had experience in urban settings will be required to work closely with at least one urban educator during their degree program in order to experience the urban classroom first-hand.
This Master of Science in Urban Education degree program will provide the academic requirements for a NYS Professional Certificate for post-baccalaureate students through advanced study in the theory and pedagogy of urban education and further study in the content or concentration field required for professional certification.

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services provides financial awards through several scholarships to international students. Recipients must be matriculated and enrolled full-time at Buffalo State at the time they apply for the scholarships. Eligibility requirements vary by scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements:
The scholarship is targeted to support “non-tuition” related expenses of the recipient including fees, room and board, books, personal, travel along with other related expenses related to special experiences like study abroad, etc.3
Spring 2025 Scholarship Process
Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
