First Year Pathway in Engineering, computing and technology Leading to Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Program Overview

In the First Year Pathway students complete the ARU first year of the degree, undertaking the same modules, in the same classes as students entering the University directly. Alongside the ARU modules, students entering through the First Year Pathway will have additional support and tuition from ARU College.

First Year in Engineering, computing and technology

Students in these disciplines will find it necessary to work confidently in multi-disciplinary teams throughout their careers. A foundation in Engineering, Computing and Technology is structured around projects working with others from different degree programmes, enabling them to begin to develop this extremely important transferable skill.

Develop the knowledge and skills you need to create technologies and applications that will change the world. During your Foundation, you will have opportunities for practical work and experimentation across a range of elements, including engineering design tasks centred on developing simple robots, in order to introduce the challenges and benefits of realising theoretical ideas. There’ll be lectures and seminars combined with work-based learning and plenty of course options to personalise your studies.

BSC (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering

  • Develop high-level knowledge and skills in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), robotics, AI, internet of things (IoT), power electronics, sustainable technologies and more.
  • Bring the world of work to life through Live Briefs; designed and developed with regional employers to give you exposure to ‘real world’ problem-solving.
  • Study in our state-of-the-art electronics and microelectronics labs using software including Xilinx ISE, Multisim, LabVIEW, Ansys, Matlab, SPICE and VHDL-AMS.
  • A diverse breadth of expert staff with a wide range of industrial and academic backgrounds make learning more real, hands-on and relevant.

Electronic and electrical engineers are at the forefront of the challenge to connect our world: from designing and building more efficient and affordable technology, to providing a more robust and green energy network, and to help us live better, healthier, smarter and more sustainably.

It’s a discipline which impacts on almost every area of our lives, including communications, commerce, entertainment, manufacturing, healthcare, transport, energy and the environment.

With an emphasis on Industry 4.0 concepts, you'll learn about the latest developments and techniques in a variety of cutting-edge areas of engineering, such as Digital Signal Processing (DSP), robotics, AI, internet of things (IoT), power electronics, and sustainable technologies, so you'll graduate well-prepared to enter the workplace.
