The Rehabilitative Health Sciences Major, B.S. (RHSC-BS) prepares students for graduate studies in medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, speech-language pathology, audiology, nutrition and dietetics, and other allied health fields of study. This degree also prepares students to enter entry-level rehabilitative or health care positions or provides an avenue to a bachelor’s degree for students who have completed an A.A.S. (Associate of Applied Science) degree as a rehabilitation assistant in physical therapy (PTA), occupational therapy (OTA), or speech-language pathology (SLPA) and desire to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. The curriculum is framed within the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health, which emphasizes patient-centered interprofessional care and fosters the application of the core competencies of interprofessional collaborative practice. The interprofessional focus of the RHSC-BS program emphasizes opportunities for students to interact with students from all of the health science colleges at ETSU. The program includes 49 credits in the major and incorporates 150 clinical observation hours. The RHSC-BS program is not a competitive entry program, so anyone who would like to pursue the major may do so.
