Program Overview

The course is designed to align to the standards for the food industry technical professional recently developed by industry and academic representatives to provide trained technical food professionals to support the continued growth of the food industry. You will gain an understanding in associated technological developments and its requirement for food quality, safety and security within the global supply chain.

This course offers apprentices the opportunity to develop skills in product design, food processing, hygiene and management. Studying this course offers a degree qualification to paid employees within existing Food industries. It will be of interest to those considering a scientific or technical career in food and drink manufacturing or those seeking to advance their careers in quality, technical, hygiene or product development roles.

The course introduces apprentices to the subjects of Microbiology, Chemistry and Physiology and further develops this knowledge the study of the more applied subjects of Food Microbiology and Food Analytical Techniques, Human Nutrition and Nutraceuticals. Apprentices will gain management skills, knowledge of product development processes, standard operating hygiene procedures and current testing methods at the University of Bedfordshire and in the workplace.
