Bachelor of Arts in English Literature / Bachelor of Laws

Program Overview

  • A double degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws gives you an edge when applying for jobs as a community lawyer, legal officer, barrister or solicitor. When combined with a major in History, International Relations, or Social Justice, this double degree enables you to follow your passion and pursue a range of employment.
  • By completing a double degree, your opportunities for employment will expand and you will graduate sooner than if you were to complete two separate degrees.
  • The different areas of law you will explore throughout the degree include criminal law, legal conflict and resolution and legal professional practice and ethics. This is then combined with an Arts major of your choice, including Anthropology and Archaeology, Creative and Critical Writing, English Literature, Journalism, International Relations, History, and Contemporary Media.
  • When graduating with a double degree, you will receive a separate testamur (official certificate) for each degree.

Major: English Literature

  • The English Literature major fosters your passion for great writing and develops valuable skills in forming critical arguments, conducting research and documenting evidence.
  • Study in this area encourages you to be analytical and to develop a clear and expressive writing style in a range of modes.
  • Explore the great works of literature as well as innovative and contemporary works of poetry, prose, drama, film, new media and critical essays.
  • Prepare yourself for the jobs of a changing world by building skills in forming critical arguments, developing cross-cultural understanding, and applying a clear and expressive writing style.
