Master of Information Technology in Cyber Security

Program Overview

The use of IT systems in modern organisations is now ubiquitous. As these IT systems become ever-more sophisticated, the need for highly trained IT professionals across all sectors is becoming more urgent. However, there’s currently a global talent shortage of about 40 million skilled tech workers. This means IT professionals – especially software and applications programmers, database and systems administrators, ICT business and systems analysts, and ICT security specialists – are in high demand.

The Master of Information Technology has been specially designed to train those who have an undergraduate qualification in an area other than IT how to harness the power of technology to solve complex problems and drive innovation across a range of industries. The first year of the degree is an accelerated equivalent of an IT bachelor degree and the second year is structured around advanced units, so you’ll graduate with a specialised, competitive and transferrable skillset that will help you fast track your career in this booming field.

Specialisation: Cyber Security
Cyberattacks are becoming more common and sophisticated. Viruses are infecting everything from networks and servers to personal computers and mobile devices more frequently than ever before. And costly ransomware attacks, phishing scams and identity theft are wreaking havoc across the globe. To mitigate these growing cyberthreats, a variety of creative and robust cybersecurity solutions are required. As such, graduates with expert knowledge of cybersecurity are in high demand across a range of sectors in Australia and around the world.

The Cyber Security specialisation – specially designed to provide IT skills to those who have an undergraduate qualification in an area other than IT – focuses on IT fundamentals, programming, databases, networks, cloud computing and computer systems. You’ll analyse and evaluate the features, functions and performance of cybersecurity devices and software, and network communication protocols. And you’ll evaluate and apply legal and social principles and practices in cybersecurity projects.
