International Year One (UTP Stage II): Environment, Leading to Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography - Geoscience Stream

Program Overview

International Year One (UTP Stage II): Environment

International Year One (UTP Stage II): Environment (Science) provides first-year courses and the foundation for progression to the second year of SFU’s Faculty of Environment. With an emphasis on applied and interdisciplinary solutions to complex environmental problems, programs in the Faculty of the Environment provide multiple career options for students.

Leading to: Bachelor of Science in Physical Geography - Geoscience Stream

Environmental Science is a unique program that provides students with a broad understanding of the environment underpinned by a strong foundation in science. The program combines several academic approaches to facilitate critical interpretation and evaluation of studies on current environmental issues impacting humans and ecosystems. Students are encouraged to examine the social, economic and political contexts for these environmental issues, including legislative framework for management actions, and role of stake-holders in decision making.

Geoscience Stream

The geoscience stream offers coursework in environmental geoscience, emphasizing geomorphology, earth science, hydrology, soils and climatology. It targets the academic requirements needed to apply for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (environmental geoscience) in Canada, a skills-based professional accreditation required in the environmental and natural resource sectors.
