Advanced Diploma in Journalism

Program Overview

Dive into the world of journalism and captivate readers and audiences with your storytelling.

You’ll have the chance to follow your passions and turn them into powerful stories - you’ll learn by doing. You’ll develop a nose for news and learn how to get people to talk in interviews and to report out in the field and in underserved communities. Back in our innovative newsroom, you’ll present those stories in a variety of ways, from podcasts and video to the written word, photography or visualizations. And you’ll learn how to share those stories with audiences of all types including on social media, in newsletters, online at humberetc.ca, on printed pages, through the airwaves and on the screen.

In your final year, you'll have the chance to specialize and refine your skillset in audio, video, the written word and investigative research, and will also have the option to work with industry partners on data-informed or investigative journalism projects through Humber StoryLab.

Our program features:

  • experienced faculty who work in industry and have extensive and exclusive media connections
  • student participation in national and international collaborative journalism projects alongside other students from across the country
  • equitable, diverse, inclusive, fair and culturally aware practices
  • support for entrepreneurial skill development for independent and professional growth
  • hands-on technical and production training including broadcast equipment, digital prepress, TV production and multimedia management
  • real-life experience working on our online news site humberetc.ca and campus newspaper, Radio Humber 96.9 FM, Humber TV, and magazine productions
  • valuable industry exposure and contacts through field experiences that help you build your network and resumé

Work-Integrated Learning
