The world is undergoing an information explosion at the same time business is becoming more competitive. People with the skills to help businesses and society innovate are in demand.

In the Bachelor of Information Technology, you’ll acquire foundational skills in programming, data storage and modelling, networking and cybersecurity. You’ll develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills from an area of information technology – such as software design and construction, applied data modelling and analysis, or security problem detection and mitigation – and learn how to apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems. And you’ll learn how to relate your knowledge and skills in information technology to a broader societal context, and make sound decisions regarding ethical and security concerns.

Networking is an ever-changing environment, with current game-changing technologies including 5G, software defined networks (SDN), Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous drones and cars, heterogeneous broadband, cloud networks and cognitive adaptive systems. With the changes these technologies bring come opportunities to reshape not only the networking and communications industries, but also the way we live.

The Networking major will provide you the skills to build and manage complex networks to support businesses and governments in a competitive global market. You’ll learn about emerging trends and advanced topics in networking and use your understanding of cloud technologies to solve real-world problems. As you develop your expertise in communication protocols and network security, you’ll begin designing, building, installing and managing different networks and communication systems, including wired, mobile, voice and multimedia systems.
